Staying Healthy in the Winter

A lot of people are getting sick with sore throats and runny noses these days, and every year around this time it's the same. We blame the cold weather. We blame the fact that others are sick so there is nothing we can do but "catch" the virus as well. Truth is, there are quite a few things we can do to stay healthy. In this blog I want to mention three very important ones:


1. Above all, refrain from consuming sugar. There is sugar in almost all processed "foods" and beverages, so be extra careful and read levels. If it's obvious that there's sugar, then pick something else; however, check labels because there's even sugar in ketchup! Find some alternatives to your sugar addiction because your body WILL CRAVE SUGAR to satisfy your pallet. It's proven that sugar is more addictive than crack cocaine and heroine!  


2. Get enough sleep every single night. Our body reboots itself at night time, as we sleep, so if we try to live on just a few hours of sleep each night our body is going to break down and force us to catch up on that lost sleep. So sleep it off without any cold medications. Just lay down and go to sleep. Besides cutting way down on sugar, sleep is THE most important thing we can do to stay healthy and get healthy. 


3. Drink lots of water throughout the day BETWEEN MEALS and when you first wake up in the morning. The best thing we can drink is NOT a cup of coffee - it's 8 to 16 oz of filtered water. Don't particularly like the taste? Here are a couple of suggestions: Add a drop of Lemon Vitality oil into your 16-20 oz water bottle, shake it up and drink it up. If you want something that will warm you up, heat up a mugful of water and add to it either a couple drops of Slique Essence or a drop of Spearmint and 2 of Lime.


Want to kick it up a notch? Here are some extra suggestions:

- Diffuse Raven, Lemon or Thieves essential oil in the living room and bedrooms, day and/or night.
