Exercise Smarter, Not Longer

Many people ask if I exercise for several hours at the gym everyday so that I can have the toned arms, legs and abs that I have, and I always tell them, “No way! I don’t have the time nor the desire to do that. I’m too busy.” So what do I do to stay fit? Was I simply naturally thin, as many others that have gotten to know over the past few years believe?

 

I was thin when I was little, but I started gaining weight when I turned 13, and kept gaining until I was 24. Then, after college, I started leading a healthy lifestyle that included healthy eating and exercise, and now also non-toxic products and good sleep habits. So, here’s what I do as far as exercise goes: I exercise from home with a program that has all three components of fitness in it througout the week, which are cardio/lungs, toning/strength training, and flexibility/stretching. I have quite a few to choose from now, so I simply decide what program I will follow for the next 90 days, and then apply myself to it. The programs are written out by professionals, and they tell me exactly what I need to do every day. All I need to do is schedule 30 – 45 minutes, or an hour max, and do the scheduled routine. My first program, the one I did about 15 years ago, was one that was written out in a book; I like doing that one still when I go on vacation and don’t have anywhere to play my DVDs. Now, I use programs that come on DVDs and are offered by BeachBody; I simply pop in the DVD with the routine scheduled for me on that particular day and do it, in good form and pushing myself to the max, knowing my limits and modifying when needed.

 

Working out at home, I save time. Depending on how busy I am during the day, I exercise from 6:15 to 6:45, or I will start exercising at 8:30 for 30 minutes. I do that everyday, except Sunday, since we need one rest day a week, for sure, so our bodies can fully recover. In other words, I am now exercising smarter, not longer hours. I have BeachBody programs that I do, which have a schedule, so I just put in the DVD with the routine planned for that day, and then do it. The program I am doing now is called "Focus T25" and each routine is just 25 minutes. We do one routine a day four days a week, and then a double workout (so 50 minutes) once a week and then get two days of rest.

 

 I want to be fit, healthy and energetic for life, to bring glory to God,  but exercising long hours is just not feasible; plus, I want to inspire others to exercise and I want to show them that it’s possible to be fit and healthy by fitting exercise in everyday in under an hour, as long as we follow a good program that encompasses all three components of fitness, so that is what I continue to do, and will do for the rest of my life. I've lost over 70 pounds since 1995 and have been able to keep the weight off by leading a healthy lifestyle which includes exercising less that an hour a day 5-6 days a week, following a BeachBody program, so I am definitely speaking from experience.
