This past week and a half was quite an adventure. I had gone with my youth group to Detroit for the ELCA National Youth Gathering. It was amazing! This is how it all began.
We first went on a two day train to Chicago which was okay.
We sat in coach and the seats weren't very comfortable to sleep in. When we finally made it, we went to eat Chicago's famous deep dish pizza which was awesome! After that, we went to the Willis Tower which is one of the tallest towers in the world where we went on the sky deck where we could see the entire city. The next day, we took a six hour train to Detroit. Now this
is where my 5 day adventure begins.
The gathering was held at Ford Field and there were 30,000 youth there. There were many different speakers and songs. There was even a Christian rapper! The best part was Motown which
is where two actual bands from that time period ('60s-'80s or so) sang different songs which was very exciting. There was a Convention center where they had ziplines, a ledge jumper, inflatables, spike ball, and karaoke.
service day there were 10,000 people there. We went to a small town. We picked up trash, painted the curb and cut long branches and vines. It made a huge diffence and we could actually see through the alley and walk through and for some reason there
was a boat and no one in the area remembered where it came from. Everyone in the area were very thankful and said that they hadn't seen the area that clean in years.
On Monday, we went to see the unique artistic side of detroit. There
were graffiti walls and different objects that created things such as a dinosaur. After a long day, we took the plane back to CA. It was an amazing experiance and in 2018, I'll be a Servant Companion, which is where I help the youth with the service
